Amanda Serrano could potentially be Katie Taylor’s toughest opponent when they meet later this year. The Puerto Rica fighter has held nine major boxing titles in seven different weight divisions.

The 31-year-old is the current WBO Super Flyweight champion having won the title by beating Heather Hardy on points at Madison Square Garden on September 13, but she will now challenge Taylor for her WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF and The Ring lightweight titles.

This will not be the first time a Serrano has been in the ring with Taylor. Amanda’s sister Cindy went toe-to-toe with the Bray fighter back in October 2018 as Taylor won a unanimous points decision in Boston, Massachusetts to retain her WBA and IBF lightweight titles.

After Taylor retained her titles, Cindy’s husband and trainer Jordan Maldonado cause a scene by shouting at Taylor and her coach Ross Enamait. He said: “You got the easy sister tonight. Next time you get Amanda and she will kick your a**.”

A little bit disrespectful to say at the best of times, but to say that about your own wife, who was in earshot, is down right out of order.

After hearing what Maldonado, Taylor told the waiting reporters in the press conference: “He was saying terrible things and that was his wife who was in the ring. He was saying ‘you picked the weaker Serrano.’

“That’s a terrible thing to say. At least give your wife some encouragement. That’s ridiculous of him.”

Maldonado is also Amanda’s trainer and he has a reputation for trash talking opponents, but Amanda refuses to do Taylor a disservice.

She said: “I’m happy we finally got this big fight made because both myself and Katie deserve to be in this position.

“While our fight could have been a main event, I’m still grateful it’s happening. I’m not going to talk down to Katie, as I know she won’t to me, so I’ll leave it at this: One thing that’s for sure is that we’ll both leave it all in the ring.”
