Josh Kelly needs to start showing us a bit more if we are to believe he a future world champion.
The Sunderland-born fighter has a bucket load of potential, but he seems to lack that killer instinct that makes you a world champion.
His professional record is quite impressive with 15 fights, 13 wins, one loss and one draw. But there seems to be something missing for me.
He has won his last three fights. He suffered his first defeat against David Avanesyan in 2021, but he has since defeated Peter Kramer, Lucas Bastida and Troy Williamson.
His opponent – Gabriel Alberto Corzo – has a pro record of 18 fights and 18 wins with three coming by way of knockout.
If this is going to the distance, then I can see Kelly just going through the gears. He might not be the best boxer in the division, but he is smart and if he knows he is not getting knocked out, then he will take his time and pick Corzo off.
As I have mentioned, Kelly needs to show something and I think July 15 will be that night. Back Kelly to claim his eighth KO win with a sixth-round stoppage.
