Chris Eubank Jr v Liam Smith Boxing Betting Tips & Predictions

Chris Eubank Junior is a lot like his father was when he was an active fighter – a great talent but not very likeable.

He boasts about his ability like his dad used to do, but just like Eubank Senior he can back that up in the ring – but it doesn’t mean the boxing fans have to like him.

Many boxing fans were looking forward to seeing him get beaten by Conor Benn – but that never came to fruition after Benn tested positive in a drugs test.

I am not sure we will ever see that fight as Eubank Jr has lost any faith in what Benn has to say anymore and he will be setting his sights a lot higher in the future.

Eubank Junior has two defeats on his record – against Billy Joe Saunders and George Groves – and he has won his last six fights.

In that run he dismantled James DeGale and was pushed all the way by Marcus Morrison – he will need to be at his best if he is to defeat Smith.

The Liverpudlian fighter has three defeats under his belt, while he has won his last three bouts. His last loss was a controversial points decision defeat against Magomed Kurbanov in Russia, but since then he has beaten Anthony Fowler, Jessie Vargas and Hassan Mwakinyo.

Despite being from Liverpool, I feel the majority of the Manchester crowd will be on Smith’s side. No one wants to see a fighter hurt, but a lot of fans would like to see Eubanks Junior fall on his sword.

I am backing Smith to get his arm raised at the end of a brutal affair. This will be a slugfest with both fighters not taking a backward step. This fight will go the distance with Smith winning on points.

Chris Eubank Jr v Liam Smith Boxing Betting Tips & Predictions: Fighter’s Predictions

Liam Smith: “Because of the name, his second name, because of his demeanour and his attitude, he’s made himself a big name in British boxing. It is a high-profile fight. Do I think he’s a better fighter than Jaime Munguia? No, so I don’t think he’s the second-best fighter I’ve fought either. But time will tell. He’s somehow developed himself a big name in British boxing. The name he is, the money he’s made in boxing is crazy because I think he’s won a British title. He’s never won a world title and he’s made stupid money out of boxing and he’s a big name. So, they’ve obviously done something right. But I think the name’s helped that massively. Nothing he ever does bothers me. He doesn’t bother me. There’s been better fighters, more dedicated pros so to speak, who have had very, very good careers, tough fights all the way through their careers, who haven’t made an eighth of the money Chris had made. That’s the sport and that’s like the business side to it. He’s played the game perfectly. He’s not my cup of tea but if I didn’t think that of him, I’d be thinking you know what, good on you mate. You’ve played the game perfectly. But in the bigger picture, some of the pros who have had top careers over the years who haven’t earned half the money, that’s what I was saying with that. There’s been world champions, who have walked out of boxing without a penny and not because they blew the money but because maybe it weren’t there then and they weren’t a big name but they were still world champions.”

Chris Eubank Jr: “I wasn’t going to give up Christmas and New Year for Liam Smith, he is just not dangerous enough. I know what Liam is, I sparred with Liam, I have watched him for years. Liam is very A, B, C – there are going to be no surprises, I know everything he is going to do, and I know how to deal with fighters like that. That’s why I say there is not much of a danger there and it will not be as hard a fight as Conor Benn would have been. Liam has one way of doing things, whereas I can box, I can fight, I can brawl, I can swing, I can slug, I can dance around. He has one way of doing things, which is to come forward, tuck up, stay in the pocket and try and walk his man down. Will he try and change that for me? I don’t think you can change your fighting style at his age, unless you have the mind to do that, which I don’t think he has.”
