This has the potential to be the fight of the year. Two amazing fighters with impressive professional records lock horns in Canada with the WBC, IBF and WBO light heavyweight belts on the line.

The Russian-born Canadian has a 100% record as a professional. He has won all 19 fights with every single one of them coming by way of knockout.

Smith is no mug. He has only been beaten once and that was against Canelo Alvarez back in 2020. He has won his last two fights by knockout against Lenin Castillo and Mathieu Bauderlique.

Beterbiev is a beast – there is no other way to describe it. He likes to punish people and knock them out. I am not sure he can knock out Smith – even Canelo could not manage that.

This is a very difficult fight to predict. If Beterbiev goes to knock Smith out, I feel the Liverpool fighter will pick him off and box his ears off to get the win on points.

But Beterbiev is clever. He knows he is in with a tough competitor in Smith. He will box clever. The fight will go the distance – probably even a split decision – but I am backing Beterbiev to edge it.
