It’s finally been confirmed – Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will face off for the WBO, WBA (Super), IBF, IBO, WBC and The Ring heavyweight titles in January…………………………………2050!
OK, so it might not actually have been confirmed, but there is a strong possibility that we will all be grey and using Zimmer frames when these two finally get to share a ring.
We thought we were going to have the big blockbuster fight this summer/autumn with the two British heavyweights duking it out to be crowned the greatest – but someone decided to throw their toys out of the pram.
Deontay Wilder cried all the way to court to get the right to fight Fury in a third fight – one no one wants to watch by the way.
That’s fine, this was scheduled for July 24. Get it out of the way and AJ and The Gypsy King can go at it at the end of the year – wrong again.
Illness in the Fury camp means that fight will now take place in October, meaning we will not be seeing AJ v Fury at all this year – or maybe never.
There is an amazing photo doing the rounds on Twitter courtesy of boxingP4Pnews (see above), with the fight being confirmed for 2050 and both fighters looking old and weary – actually, Joshua looks like Morgan Freeman.
It is a funny picture, but the seriousness of it certainly hits home.
Will we ever see these two heavyweight champions in the same ring together?
I hope so, but I suspect I will need to turn up my hearing aid to listen to the commentary on my floating, futuristic television that I can use anywhere in the house.
