Jennifer Lopez and Shakira are set to join the long list of musical stars to have performed during half-time during the Super Bowl, and bookmaker Paddy Power is offering customers the chance to bet on a series of novelty markets for the pair’s set on Sunday night.

The half-time show has become a big deal for the NFL ever since Michael Jackson raised the game with record viewing figures in 1993, and since that night the league has go all out to attract the biggest names in the industry – with mixed success.
We have experienced brilliance, boredom and Janet Jackson’s boob over the years, so what can we expect from this latest half-time show as J.Lo and Shakira bring some latin flavour to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida?
Bookmaker Paddy Power has priced up several markets for their show, with the key ones being the subject of what song will open up the setlist. The BettingPro.com team have had a look through the ‘First Song’ market to pick out their choice of opener (although none of us will probably see it because it will be the perfect time to grab another beer from the fridge)…
Super Bowl Tips – First Song of Half-Time Show
Dave Kuzio: Whenever Wherever @ 5/1 Paddy Power
I don’t know if I’m ashamed or proud of the fact that I don’t really know many Shakira songs. Who am I kidding, of course I’m proud! The one I do know is Whenever Wherever and if i was waiting for her performance on the edge of my seat then I would want her to open up with this one. It’s a popular song and most people will know the words. The only thing I really know about Shakira is that she is going out with Barcelona footballer Gerard Pique. Her performance could be improved with him making appearance and Paddy Power have odds of 40/1 that will happen.
Leigh Copson: Let’s Get Loud @ 6/1 Paddy Power
Jennifer Lopez may think that the start of the Super Bowl half-time show is a time to get loud, but I wholeheartedly disagree. At that point the only thing I’ll be doing is hitting the mute button on the remote and taking a slow walk to the fridge for another cold one and a bag of Aero Mint Bubbles (obviously there are many other ranges of confectionary out there for your consideration).
Ben Darvill: Hips Don’t Lie @ 4/1 Paddy Power
While my two colleagues have clearly plumped for a bit of mind-numbing research into the rumour mill online, I’ve instead backed the only song whose words I feel I could (possibly) get away with pretending to sing at a bar. Other than that reason, I am backing this one as it seems like the most likely song choice for Shakira that will keep a certain Pitbull away from appearing on stage with her while, like Dave, I do quite like the thought of Gerard Pique appearing during the half-time show of the Super Bowl with his wife and, if it does happen, what a lovely way it would be to announce his retirement from football and the beginning of his new career as a clown!
Serious Super Bowl Half-Time Show Tips
Now we have had our fun, let’s be serious here. Despiertamerica reportedly got their hands on the setlist last week and if the run sheet is correct then J.Lo will be taking to the stage first and opening up with ‘Get Right’. She is expected to be joined by Ja Rule (who may be taking notes on how to run a proper event after that whole Fyre Fest farce) before Shakira finally takes to the stage. Hopefully she will decide against proving that her breasts are small and humble so you don’t confuse them with mountains. America, especially the NFL, could not cope with another bare breast overshadowing the Super Bowl! Paddy Power couldn’t either because they have gone 10/1 that we see another wardrobe malfunction!
Serious Tip 2: Shakira’s First Song – She Wolf @ 5/4 Paddy Power
Nothing can be kept a secret in the world of entertainment anymore. A number of websites have reportedly revealed the official setlists for both Shakira and Jennifer Lopez ahead of their performance at the Super Bowl. If we are to believe everything we read, the Colombian goddess is set to open up with She Wolf – her 2009 hit that reached number one in Mexico. Personally, I would like to see an actual wolf howl during the half-time break than any of these singers, but each to their own.
