Coral-Eclipse

The Coral Eclipse Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in the United Kingdom for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds run over a distance of 1 mile 2 furlongs and 7 yards (2,018 metres) at Sandown Park in early July.

It was first run in 1886 and is named after the great 18th century racehorse Eclipse. The race has been sponsored by English bookmaker Coral since 1976 and is the longest sponsorship in English horse racing.
In 2006 their sponsorship of the race was extended to 2012.

The Eclipse is traditionally the race when the top horses from the classic generation (three-year-olds) meet older horses for the first time. It is a high quality race, and the ten furlong distance can attract both Newmarket and Epsom classic winners.
