As the odds for the 2008/9 season indicate, the SPL is pretty much a two-horse race every season between Celtic and Rangers. The former have held sway in the past three seasons under manager Gordon Strachan although the law of averages (plus the fact Walter Smith is now manager of Rangers) means the value probably lies with the Gers for the forthcoming campaign. This is especially when you consider that their failure to land last season’s title was in no small part due to a massive fixture backlog.
 
Most bookmakers will offer a "Without the Big 2" market which can be infinitely more interesting if we have a runaway leader. With the likes of Hearts, Hibernian, Aberdeen and Motherwell all fairly evenly-matched, there's some decent each-way value knocking around.
