Unibet Poker

Summary

Unibet Poker is the dominant skin on the Microgaming (former Prima) network, having made the crossover from 24hr Poker back in 2006. One of Europe's premier poker rooms, Unibet Poker attracts a strong Scandinavian player core. Diversity is the name of the game at Unibet, with a casino, sportsbook and scratch cards accompanying the poker client. Despite several smaller Microgaming skins going into liquidation this year, Unibet is a reputable site and organises an annual, live poker open.

Key Tournaments

Unibet Poker has a whole host of tournaments on offer to their players and with buy-ins starting at just $1 and then ranging to hundreds of dollars, there is loads for players to sink their teeth into.

The jewel in the Unibet Poker crown is without doubt their $250,000 GTD and with qualifiers running for as little as $5.50, you can get rich quick for small stakes.

Unibet also offers satellites to some of the world’s greatest tournaments, including events like the WSOP, WPT and the EPT.

Game Variety

Hold'em (NL, Fixed, Pot Limit), Omaha (Hi, Hi-lo), Razz, 7 Card Stud, 5 Card Stud and 5 Card draw are all available, however there are no mixed games.

Unibet offers SnG's from as low as €0.50 - pefect for aspiring bankroll builders. Turbo, five handed, double or nothing and bounty tables make for a diverse selection. One gripe is with the heads-up SnG's - even in the standard games the blind levels jump very quickly.

There isn't much joy for the MTT highroller, with the Saturday €5k Guaranteed deepstack tournament offering the juiciest prize pool. The biggest carrot are the numerous satellites to live events - including the Aussie Millions and the Unibet Poker Open (qualify exclusively on Unibet from as little as €5)

Traffic

You can expect between 7000 and 10000 seated players whether at ring games or cash tournaments, during peak times. Since Unibet harbours strong EU playerbase, action can be sparse during off peak hours. Action dwindles severely above €5/10, with most play confined to heads-up. There are plenty of 6-max tables at midstakes (around the €2/€4 level).

Rake

You can now get 50% rake back at Unibet until 31st July 2011!
The payment comes in two parts:
1)    Your regular loyalty bonus depending on your loyalty tier.
2)    A weekly booster that could take you up to 50% rakeback!

The booster works like this:

Rake between €250 and €499 from Monday to Sunday, and you’ll get an extra 10% cash in your poker account on the next Monday!
Rake at least €500 from Monday to Sunday and you’ll get an extra 20% cash in your poker account on the next Monday.
As with Poker Club, payouts will happen automatically every Monday.

Competition

Mixed. Micro stakes games are very fishy - any TAG player will relish the maniacs stacking off with mid pair in the 6 max games. If you have the bankroll to withstand the volatility, the €0.25/€0.50 PLO heads-up games are worth dabbling in. Three of Microgaming's largest skins - Stan James, Unibet and Ladbrokes, are all large sportsbook / casino websites, meaning there's an influx of reckless gamblers gracing the virtual felt.

The Microgaming network isn't the high stakes minefield it once was. Back in 2005, some of the best players in Europe occupied the $200/$400 games on the old Prima network. Nevertheless, Unibet retains a strong core of Scandinavian players, who happen to be some of the shrewdest players online. There are loose, profitable games available, but pick your fights wisely and be cautious of those Scandi multi-tablers.
