The Japanese were pushed to the limit by Germany in their Pool H opener at the Orlen Arena yesterday. The Asian powerhouse lost the first two sets 18-25 20-25 before sweeping the next three 25-20 25-22 15-12 to pick up its fourth win in as many matches.

Miyu Nagaoka was unstoppable for the Asians, leading the way with 27 points.

Backing her up were Yuki Ishii and Risa Shinnabe, who tallied 16 and 10 points, respectively. Japan, which improved to eight points in the overall standings, was without star player Yukiko Ebata.

"We still have to learn from this game for our next clashes," Japan head coach Masayoshi Manabe told reporters in the post-match conference.

Japan is expected to beat winless Kazakhstan, which fell prey to Poland 17-25 17-25 11-25 yesterday.

Tatyana Mudritskaya paced the Central Asians with 11 points while Sana Jarlagassova tallied eight.
