Speaking in Serbian to national newspaper Kurir, Srdjan Djokovic openly criticised Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for their attitudes towards his son, world No. 1 Novak Djokovic. Srdjan stated that Nadal had been Novak's best friend for years. That was, apparently, until Novak made his ascension to the top of the rankings. He added that Novak is the only athlete who treats his opponents the same whether he wins or loses, and he owes this to the positive attitude towards defeat that he instilled in Novak as a child.

Speaking of Federer, Srdjan remarked that Federer may be the greatest tennis player of all time, but that as a person he's the complete opposite. He feels that Federer has attempted to discredit his son from the moment that he realised that the Serbian was to be his successor.

However, Srdjan had much kinder words saved for Andy Murray and his family. He said that the two Wimbledon finalists had effectively grown up together and that their friendship had been passed on to their professional careers. Although the two men were to become great on-court rivals, Srdjan stated that he's not once felt even a glimpse of jealousy from Andy's family. He admits that they cannot be best friends whilst they both compete, but expressed a confidence that Novak and Andy will be great friends once they have completed their careers.

The Djokovic family have been known to shy away from the media and Srdjan explained that this is because Novak is a more than capable representative of Serbia. It also seems that they have no interest in stealing the limelight from him. That said, this interview is likely to cause ripples in the tennis world and Srdjan's remarks are bound to attract a lot of attention and further questioning over the next few days.
