The £1.1million show-piece tournament returns across 17 days at the historic Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, where 32 of the world's top players will descend in a bid to be crowned World Champion.

The biggest and most prestigious tournament in the world of snooker provides a spectacular culmination to what has been a jam-packed season, but by Bank Holiday Monday on May 6, one man will reign supreme.

Players from all corners of the world have battled hard to secure their coveted place in this event, with the world's top 15 players joined by a further 16 qualifiers, plus defending champion - Ronnie O'Sullivan.

O'Sullivan returns to action following a self-imposed 12-month sabbatical from the sport after lifting his fourth world title here last May, and all eyes will be on 'The Rocket' to see if he can pull off a sensational win on the basis of little match practice.

He is, however, embroiled in arguably the most fiercely competitive staging of the tournament in recent years, with all eleven major ranking events so far this season won by as many different players.

World number one - Mark Selby is aiming for a historic Triple Crown, while Neil Robertson looks to cap off a landmark season with his second world crown.

John Higgins aims to make it a fantastic five Crucible wins, while young guns Judd Trump, Ding Junhui and Mark Allen all have their sights set on a maiden title.

The first round will be played across the opening six days, with the last 16 commencing on April 15 through to April 20. Quarter-Finals, semis and the final are all split across two days as the tournament reaches its conclusion over a long haul format.

Format:

Round One: Best of 19 frames
Last 16: Best of 25 frames
Quarter-Finals: Best of 25 frames
Semi-Finals Best of 33 frames
Final: Best of 35 frames
