The opening weekend of the 2012 season sees champions Leeds Rhinos begin their title defence with a home match against Hull Kingston Rovers on Friday February 3, while Super League newcomers Widnes Vikings begin their life in the top tier with a home game against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
The following day sees the newly-built City of Salford Stadium hosts its first competitive fixture as Salford City Reds host Castleford Tigers and at the Twickenham Stoop the newly-renamed London Broncos face 2011 beaten Grand Finalists St Helens.
On Sunday February 5, Hull FC face last year’s League Leaders Warrington Wolves at the KC Stadium, Carnegie Challenge Cup winners Wigan Warriors host Huddersfield Giants and Bradford Bulls entertain Super League Club of the Year Catalan Dragons.
Leeds Rhinos shocked everyone last season by becoming the first club to win the Super League title from outside the top four when they defeated St Helens at Old Trafford.
Fans always say that the league table counts for nothing and it is where you finish in the play-offs that really matters - well that certainly was the case for the Rhinos.
Widnes are back in Super League and along with their revolutionary I-pitch they will be looking to mount a serious push for the play-offs. They have recruited 16 new players for their Super League campaign and they should have no real problems against a Wakefield side who will probably not reach the play-offs.
