Jim Bolger believes that Dawn Approach is better than ever ahead of his tilt at the Epsom Derby on Saturday.

The trainer has been thrilled with the colt’s preparation for the Classic and he believes that he could be even better than he was in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket earlier this month.

The unbeaten son of New Approach is a strong 11/10 favourite for the race with Paddy Power and if Bolger’s comments are anything to go by, he’ll take some stopping on Saturday.

Bolger explained:
“I’m very happy with him. He has come out of the Guineas very well. His performance in the Guineas was spectacular, I think that’s recognised by everybody. He has been thriving ever since. I’d say he’s eating a little more than he was before the Guineas, so he’s come out of it really well, and I’ve no doubt he has improved.
“Kevin (Manning) and I know every blade of grass at Epsom at this stage. We’ve walked the track umpteen times and we’re happy enough about that.
“As regards the competition, I wish them all well, I respect each and every one of them and I would not be losing any sleep over who turns up.”

Meanwhile, Aidan O’Brien will have a number of contenders lining up for the Group One showpiece and his son and jockey Joseph has been talking up the chances of their stable stars.

O'Brien Jr said:
"We're very lucky with some nice colts, nice three-year-olds and a couple of them won nicely, albeit in below-average trials you could say.
"Battle Of Marengo is a tough horse, he keeps winning and gets the job done. He might not be very stylish but he's tough and he stays. Nevis won well in Lingfield and Ruler Of The World and Magician in Chester, so we have a couple of nice horses to go to war with."

Asked what horse he is likely to ride, O'Brien said:
"Strictly on form you can't get away from Battle Of Marengo. He beat a Group One winner in his trial and beat him nicely by a couple of lengths without having a hard race.
"In all the other trials I think you would go a long way to find a Group One winner other than the couple of winners of them. He's tough, he's genuine and he's had plenty of racing and at the moment he looks one of the principals."
