Fernando Alonso 100% confident of winning Formula 1 title

The Spaniard needs to finish second in Abu Dhabi to claim third title

Fernando Alonso’s third place finish at Interlagos on Sunday means that the Spaniard is strong favourite to capture a third Formula 1 title at Abu Dhabi this weekend.

While Red Bull have won the Constructors’ Championship thanks to strong performances from Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber this year, the pair will have to hope that their rival slips up in the final race of the campaign.

Asked whether he is confident, Alonso said: "One hundred per cent. I just need to finish second. It doesn't matter who wins in Abu Dhabi if I finish second. So the main goal for us is to be on pole on Saturday and then win the race on Sunday.

"If we cannot do that, if we are not quick enough, then we will try to be second. With that, the problem is finished."

Despite Alonso’s confidence, the bookmakers make it a two-way contest between him and Webber. The Spaniard is 8/11 with Ladbrokes, while Webber is on offer at 7/4 with the same firm.

If you think that Vettel will land the spoils, he’s available at 10/1 with Stan James.
