Huddersfield Town could cause an upset in their local derby against Premier League side Wigan Athletic on Sunday.
Huddersfield v Wigan, live on ITV. It doesn't seem that crazy to imagine as the two have met numerous times in the Challenge Cup, sharing 24 wins between them. However, this match isn't rugby league, it's football, and so there probably isn't quite the same excitement and the attendance at the John Smith's Stadium will be significantly smaller.
That may well suit the home side, who are quietly going about putting together a pretty impressive cup run at the moment. They were expected to lose to Leicester City at home in the last round but drew with the Foxes and then followed up with a stunning win at the King Power Stadium during the week.
The Terriers were underdogs for both of those games and they are once again being written off by the odds compilers, with Paddy Power
offering 13/5 on the home side this weekend. That looks a very generous price, when it is considered that Huddersfield have beaten Crystal Palace and drew with Cardiff, two sides along with Leicester, who could be playing in the Premier League next season.
Wigan are probably just a little bit better than that trio but they are unlikely to be at full strength on Sunday. Roberto Martinez has never been a huge fan of the FA Cup and the fact that the Latics haven't been in the fifth round since 1987 tells its own story. They were hardly convincing in beating non-league Macclesfield 1-0 in the previous round and it probably wouldn't bother anyone at the club if they were to go out this weekend.
That makes the 6/5 at bet365
on an away win look far too short and it could well be a mini 'giant killing' at the John Smith's Stadium, particularly with Jermaine Beckford, who made his name by scoring crucial goals in the FA Cup, in the Huddersfield side. The former Leeds, Everton and Leicester striker is 8/1 at Ladbrokes
to open the scoring and you wouldn't to bet against him doing so.
