David Villa wants Arsenal FC switch

Barcelona star David Villa wants to make a summer switch to Arsenal, according to The Sun newspaper.

Villa has failed to regain a regular place in the starting XI after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, and the 31-year-old was linked with a string of Premier League clubs during the January transfer window; most notably Liverpool and Arsenal.

However, a move never materialised and that means Villa will see out the current campaign with La Liga leaders Barca, although The Sun newspaper believe the World Cup and European Championship winner will be heading out of the Camp Nou in the summer.

They are claiming that “Barcelona insiders” have said the Spain international has “set his heart” on a summer move to the Emirates Stadium, which will undoubtedly cheer under-pressure Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

Wenger has seen a string of big-name players depart the London club during a trophy drought that could soon reach the eight-year mark, and frustrated Arsenal supporters are beginning to turn on the Frenchman.

The summer arrival of Villa would certainly appease those fans that are desperate to see the Gunners pick up some silverware for the first time since their FA Cup success at the end of the 2004/05 season.
