It feels like only a few weeks ago that Bayern Munich were lifting the Champions League trophy at Wembley, but already the 2013-14 competition is under way.
The opening qualifying matches have already taken place as the journey to the final in Lisbon begins - and the first hat-trick of the new Champions League campaign has been scored.
The treble was netted by Ismael Fofana, a striker from the Ivory Coast who plays for Armenian champions FC Shirak.
They were at home to Tre Penne of San Marino in the first qualifying round first leg and Fofana’s trio of goals earned Shirak a 3-0 win which puts them on course for a meeting with Partizan Belgrade.
The other tie in the first qualifying round pitted Lusitanos, the champions of Andorra, against EB/Streymur, their equivalent in the Faroe Islands.
The opening leg in the Pyrenees finished as a 2-2 draw, with the home side netting two first-half penalties before the North Atlantic minnows levelled it up in the second period.
Awaiting the winners is a second qualifying round tie against Dinamo Tbilisi of Georgia on July 16, which is when Scottish champions Celtic FC enter the competition with a home match against Cliftonville of Northern Ireland.
