India will look for their first win on tour when they take on Australia in the second T20I at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The match will be played on Friday.
Australia (8/13 at Blue Square
) pulled in a ruthless performance in the first T20I at Sydney in all three departments of the game to win by 31 runs. Matthew Wade’s 72 at the top of the innings and a quick-fire 42 from David Hussey in the middle of the innings ensured a good score for the home side.
Under the pressure of chasing more than 8.5 runs per over from start, the Indian batsmen floundered rather surprisingly to the spinners. Xavier Doherty, David Hussey (5/1 at bet365
) and Brad Hogg bowled a combined total of 10 overs, conceded only 48 runs and scalped three wickets to peg the Indians back.
One can trust the Indian (6/4 at BetFred
) top-order to come back strongly against the slow bowling but it will be interesting to see whether the home team goes into the game with so many spin options. On a quicker track at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, there is a good chance that Clint McKay will get a go in place of Doherty.
India need their openers Virender Sehwag (15/4 at Blue Square
) and Gautam Gambhir to step up the plate. They have looked vulnerable from the very start and their failure at the top of the innings has cost the visitors dear on tour. Another cheap dismissal could cost them a place in the side for the start of the long and winding ODI series.
The visitors bowled decently but made a tactical blunder in playing three regular and two part-time spinners. They were left with only two pacers and fell short of additional pace on the bowl on some of the occasions. Umesh Yadav could get a game in place of either Ashwin or Rahul Sharma.
Australia will be favourites again to win their sixth game in a row on this India tour.
The Australia v India 2nd T20I will be played on Friday, February 3 at 8.30 am GMT.
