The 2013-14 PBA season gets underway on Sunday as the Ginebra Kings and San Mig Coffee Mixers face off in the opening game of the Philippine Cup.
Both teams boosted their rosters in the offseason.
Ginebra made seven-footer Greg Slaughter as the top overall pick in the recent PBA Rookie Draft, strengthening its frontline. The Kings also picked athletic forward James Forrester from the same draft.
Promising point guard Emman Monfort was acquired from Barako Bull while center Jay-R Reyes came over from Meralco. Another new face is big man Bryan Faundo, who played for Globalport last season.
Fans are excited to see the new recruits team up with key returnees LA Tenorio, Mark Caguioa, Japeth Aguilar and Chris Ellis.
Also back are Jayjay Helterbrand, Marnel Baracael, Dylan Ababou, Joshua Urbiztondo and Billy Mamaril.
San Mig, meanwhile, is aiming to win a second consecutive title after ruling the season-ending Governors' Cup.
The fully-loaded club even became stronger with the arrival big man Ian Sangalang, who was picked second overall in the rookie draft.
Beanpole Isaac Holstein was also acquired in a trade with Globalport shortly after the draft.
The two big men will share playing minutes with holdovers Marc Pingris, Joe Devance, Rafi Reavis, Yancy De Ocampo and Jerwin Gaco.
Alex Mallari and Mark Barroca will still be in charge in orchestrating the Mixers' offense with star player James Yap leading the point production.
Sixth man Peter June Simon is another reliable scorer for head coach Tim Cone.
Other members of the team are rookie JR Cawaling, Lester Alvarez, Val Acuña and Allein Maliksi, who is on the injured list.
