Germany and Spain take on each other at the start of the FIBA Europe Championship second round on Wednesday.

Germany will start this phase with a 0-2 record while Spain is at 1-1.

The Germans placed third in Group B with a 3-2 record. They beat Israel (91-64), Italy (76-62) and Latvia (81-80) and lost to France (65-76) and Serbia (64-75). Unfortunately, all their wins were not carried over as the teams they beat have been eliminated.

The Germans will again rely on former NBA MVP Dirk Nowitzki, who averaged 20.1 points per game in the group stage. Another player to watch is big man Chris Kaman, who leads the tournament in rebounding and is in the top five in blocked shots.

Other notable names in the squad are Heiko Schaffartzik and Robin Benzing.

Spain, meanwhile, ended the group phase with a 57-65 defeat to Turkey last night. The erstwhile unbeaten defending champions were held to only one field goal in the fourth quarter as they found no answer to the Turks' surge.

Brothers Pau and Marc Gasol, Rudy Fernandez and Juan Carlos Navarro are hoping to bounce back and give the Spaniards a winning start in this stage of the tournament.

Also expected to provide quality minutes are Felipe Reyes, Ricky Rubio and naturalized player Serge Ibaka.
