Singapore's Premier badminton tournament is back, and it's bigger and better than ever.
The BWF Premier Super Series
event returns to the superb Singapore Indoor Arena on Tuesday, with the competition set to run until Sunday.
China's Lin Dan was, unfortunately, forced to withdraw from the tournament due to injury. The two-time Olympic champion was also forced to pull out of last week's Indonesian Open. He explained to reporters:
"I injured myself during the Badminton Asia Championship and have not fully recovered. After playing the preliminary rounds of the China National Games, I found myself not in the best condition for tournaments and I want to focus on recuperating myself for the World Championship in August."
Finland’s Ville Lang has taken Lin's place in the main draw and will face Vietnamese 6th seed Nguyen Tien Minh in the first round.
Singapore No. 2 men’s shuttler Ashton Chen now gets his chance in the qualifying round of the US$200,000 tournament as a result of the withdrawal
