Chile have never beaten Brazil in their entire history, with the two sides having played 20 times and the Samba boys winning 18 and drawing 2.

In the last five matches between the two nations, Brazil have won every game, by an average margin of 3.4 goals, scoring three goals or more in every match.

Those statistics suggest that Dunga’s side will have no problem in beating Chile this evening in the last 16 of the 2010 World Cup and odds of 4/7 (PaddyPower) on a Brazil win look like excellent value.

Chile’s task is made even more difficult this evening by a number of absences, through suspension, of key players. Midfielder Marco Estrada was sent off against Spain, while defenders Waldo Ponce and Gary Medel are also out after picking up their second yellow cards of the tournament in that match.

That is a sizeable chunk of Chile’s defensive line and a weakened defence is the last thing a team wants when facing players of the calibre of Kaka (8/1, StanJames), Robinho (6/1, Coral) and Luis Fabiano (4/1, StanJames).

That trio will score goals against Chile this evening and Marcelo Biesla’s side will have to watch that the game doesn’t get away from them too early. It is 7/5 (Bet365) that Brazil lead at half-time and win in 90-minutes and that looks like a good bet.

Spain exposed Chile’s weaknesses at the back and should and could have beaten the South Americans by more than one goal. Brazil won’t be as profligate in front of goal as the Spanish were and they should be able to win by at least two tonight (8/5, Bet365).

Chile will try to attack Brazil, as Bielsa always likes his teams to play attractive football, and young Alexis Sanchez (12/1, Bet365) has been a joy to watch so far in South Africa. Unfortunately for Chile, it could be their positive approach that proves to be their undoing as Brazil will simply exploit all gaps left if the match opens up.
