Brazil have looked like team best equipped to win the 2010 World Cup so far in South Africa

There are only eight teams left in the 2010 World Cup and the South American sides have been dominant in South Africa, with Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay making up four of the last eight .

Brazil are the clear favourites, at 5/2 (SkyBet) to be the 2010 World Cup winners and they have been the best performers in South Africa so far, with comfortable wins over Ivory Coast, North Korea and Chile, plus a draw with Portugal.

If Brazil beat Holland in the quarter finals, they will face Uruguay or Ghana in the semi-finals and neither side will hold any fear for Dunga’s side. If Brazil beat Holland they will surely be lining up in the World Cup final and they would have to be favourites to win against anyone from the other half of the draw.

Spain are the expected winners from that section, and can be backed at 3/1 (SkyBet) to win the 2010 World Cup. There is no value in that price though, as to win the tournament Spain will have to beat either Argentina or Germany then win the final.

Argentina are an interesting proposition. They were terrible in qualifying for the World Cup, but have been excellent since arriving in South Africa. Lionel Messi hasn’t hit top form yet, but Gonzalo Higuain and Carlos Tevez have scored a combined six goals to help make Diego Maradona’s side the top scorers at the World Cup.

Their defence is still slightly suspect, but Argentina make appeal at 9/2 (BetFred) to lift the World Cup trophy. If they make it past Germany, their odds will shorten considerably and based on current form, Argentina would have to be made favourites to beat Spain, should they meet in the semis.

Germany’s side are probably just a little too young and inexperienced to win the World Cup, so can’t be backed at 15/2 (SkyBet) to lift the trophy, and Paraguay (50/1, Totesport) and Ghana (40/1, Totesport) are likely to fall at the quarter-finals.

The other two sides, Holland and Uruguay can be considered under the category of ‘outsiders’ but both have a real chance of getting to the final. If Holland, who can be backed at 15/2 with PaddyPower to lift the trophy, can beat Brazil on Friday, then they will have to be considered amongst the favourites and with Wesley Sneijder playing well and Arjen Robben back, they have every chance.

Uruguay, who are 20/1 (VictorChandler) must defeat the winner of Holland v Brazil en route to the final and in a one off match, anything can happen.

If you want to oppose Brazil, our advice is to back both Holland and Brazil, as the prices on both will shorten considerably should Dunga’s side exit the tournament, however, it must be said that at the moment Brazil look the most likely winners of the 2010 World Cup.
