Spain striker and Holland midfielder fight it out for World Cup player of the tournament award

Bet365 have installed David Villla as their 7/4 favourite to win the World Cup 2010 Golden Ball award for the best player of this summer’s tournament in South Africa.

The Spain striker has scored five goals so far at the World Cup and is marginally ahead of Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder in the betting, with the Inter Milan playmaker a 15/8 shot.

Spanish midfielder Xavi is a 6/1 shot, but it looks like a straight shoot out between the top scorers of both Holland and Spain to be crowned player of the tournament.

Bet365 spokesman Steve Freeth told Bettingpro:

“We made the mistake of pushing Villa out to 7/2 after he failed to score against Germany and punters were all over it like a rash.”
