It wasn’t a vintage Uruguay performance on Saturday afternoon at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, with South Korea dominating possession and missing enough chances to have at least taken the game to extra-time. However, when you have a striker of Luis Suarez’s calibre in your team, there’s always a chance of victory.

The 26-year-old has really blossomed for La Celeste in the past couple of matches, scoring the only goal of the game against Mexico and then firing two more against the Koreans to book his team’s place in the quarter finals. We shouldn’t be surprised at his class considering he has managed 35 goals in 33 league games for Ajax this term and he’s 11/2 (Victor Chandler) to break the deadlock for the third game running.

As they were last Saturday, Uruguay are strong favourites (11/10 Paddy Power) to win this game, although it was noticeable how much the team sat back against South Korea after taking the lead. It wasn’t until the equaliser that they regrouped and went for the win, although that hasn’t stopped Oscar Tabarez’s team shortening to 12/1 (Sporting Bet) on the outright market.

Ghana are also just three games away from becoming the first African winners of the World Cup, although you can still get 33/1 with Sky Bet that Milovan Rajevac’s team go all the way. The Black Stars breezed into an early lead against the USA on Saturday night, although they were penned into their own half for much of the second half.

Even so, they were reborn during extra-time where Asamoah Gyan scored an impressive winner and you can get 10/3 (bet365) that they win in normal time in Port Elizabeth. There is sure to be tremendous support for a Ghanaian team that would make history if they became the first African team to reach the semi-final of the competition and they did make it to the final of the African Nations Cup in January.

Gyan is clearly the danger man in attack and there will be tremendous reliance on the Rennes forward after Kevin Prince-Boateng has been ruled out with a hamstring strain. He’s 15/2 (Paddy Power) to open the scoring, although perhaps Suarez and the evergreen Diego Forlan (9/2 Paddy Power) will pick the pocket of the Ghanaian defence and ensure that La Celeste keep marching on.
