Real Madrid striker now 11/8 to be top Portuguese scorer

With Portugal kicking off their World Cup campaign this afternoon, SkyBet are reporting a huge volume of bets on Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo being the top Portuguese scorer in South Africa.

Ronaldo, who has scored 22 goals in 72 appearance for his country will captain Portugal against Ivory Coast and SkyBet have been forced to cut the former World Player of the Year’s odds of outscoring his team-mates from 6/4 to 11/8.

Sky Bet’s football betting spokesman Tim Reynolds told Bettingpro:

"Ronaldo scored a total of 26 goals from 29 appearances last season for Real Madrid so it’s not surprising to see our customers backing the Portuguese star to be their leading goalscorer.

"We’ve seen 5-times as many bets on Ronaldo than any other Portugal player so we’ll be hoping that the 25-year-old fails to make the scoresheet."

Ronaldo is 25/1 with SkyBet to be the top scorer at the World Cup
