Winter Olympic Curling Odds

- 6 Feb 2010
Olympic curling will be contested by 10 teams and Team Canada are the heavy favorite.

Team Canada have the field crushed in the futures market to win gold in Olympic Curling.

Even Great Britain, the team considered second best in the world, are significant underdogs against the Canadian squad.  Here's the odds to win gold for the top 5 teams in the event:

1.  Team Canada, -110 (10/11), Sky Bet
2.  Great Britain, +450 (9/2), bet365
3.  Norway, +800 (8/1), Sky Bet
4.  Sweden, +1500 (15/1), William Hill
5.  USA, +1600 (16/1), bet365

Curling, as a sport, is one of the most mental games you'll find.  The physical requirements are not the same as grueling athletic sports like cross country skiing or ice hockey as evidenced by the fact that master curlers are often well above 40 years of age and well out of their physical prime.

With the Olympics being in Vancouver, Canada you have to wonder if the pressure is going to have a greater affect on Team Canada mentally than it would if they were outside of their country.  Taking Great Britain and Norway as as two-bet front against Team Canada's success seems like the bet to make here, especially since Team Canada's odds are so short as to not be worth the effort anyways.
