Finlay Mickel retires from downhill skiing

Downhill skier Finlay Mickel has announced his retirement at the age of 31 due to potential injury worries.

The Scottish skier has been in the British alpine ski team since 1996 and has competed in an impressive seven World Cup skiing campaigns.

Mickel competed at the Turin Winter Olympics in 2006, having missed out on a place in 2002, finishing 25th in the downhill event and 22nd in the Super-G.

Mickel's injury list over the last two years include a fractured left ankle, ruptured right Achilles tendon and a right ankle fracture.
