Volero Zurich and Azerrail Baku take on each other in the CEV Women's Champions League Playoffs 12 on Wednesday.

Volero finished third in Pool C with eight points. The Swiss club ended the League Round with a 2-3 defeat to PGE Trefl Sopot. They are also coming off a 2-3 loss to Sagres VBC NUC in the Nationalliga A. Volero posted wins over Düdingen (3-0), Pfeffingen (3-1) and Sagres VBC NUC (3-0) in between those defeats.

Azerrail, meanwhile, finished second in Pool D with 13 points. The Azerbaijan side wrapped up its group stint with a sweep of Tomis Constan?a. Prior to that win, they absorbed back-to-back setbacks at the hands of Vakifbank (2-3) and Bergamo (1-3).

"We could not ask for a better opponent than Azerrail," Volero President Stav Jacobi said. "It is a side within our reach and we know their players quite well."

Jacobi was referring to libero Valeriya Korotenko and setter Oksana Parkhomenko, who played in Zurich in 2006-2007. Another familiar face is Thai Nootsara Tomkom, who used to play for Kanti Schaffhausen and was the Swiss National League MVP in 2008-09.

Volero, however, will be without Parkhomenko and Mandy Wigger, who have yet to recover from their injuries.
