'GSP' odds-on favourite to retain Welterweight title at UFC 100
One of the top matches at UFC 100 on July 11 sees UFC Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre (18-2) defend his title against top Thiago Alves (16-3).
Canadian fighter St-Pierre is seen by many as the best welterweight not just in the UFC but in MMA - and its hard to argue against that.
'GSP' is the strong favourite to successfully defend his title in Las Vegas at the UFC's landmark pay-per-view event and you'd be brave to bet against him walking out of UFC 100 as champion.
With two weeks to go until the bout takes place, St-Pierre is a best priced 2/5 with Boylesports to win the Welterweight clash, with Alves a best priced 47/20 with Stan James.
Alves has been in great form recently and is deserving of his title shot. His punches are awesome and his knees can be nothing short of devastating.
If Alves is to win at UFC 100, he almost certainly has to keep the bout standing. He is arguably better than GSP if the fight plays to his strengths, but should the fight go to the ground or go the distance, then it is advantage St-Pierre.
The 28-year-old Canadian is the better fighter in terms of strength, submission, takedowns and wrestling. But while Alves' defence has become one of his strengths, GSP's wrestling game is quite phenomenal and its hard to see anything other than a successful title defence when this bout takes place.
Oddspreview.com prediction: St-Pierre to win via TKO in round two.
Best betting prices (odds correct as of June 27):
Georges St-Pierre - 2/5 (Boylesports)
Thiago Alves - 47/20 (Stan James.)
