All eyes will be on Caroline Wozniacki next week in New Haven, as the Dane returns in a bid to win her fifth successive title at this event. Following what could perhaps be described as a mildly disappointing year, Wozniacki will need to raise her game to finish on top of what looks to be a high quality field.

Wozniacki’s main rival here is likely to be either Agnieszka Radwanska or Petra Kvitova. Radwanska has played superbly this season, but might be a little demoralised following a heavy defeat against Na Li in Cincinnati. Kvitova, on the other hand, looks very strong right now having recently won the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

There are a number of other very capable players due to be in the mix. These include Sara Errani, Marion Bartoli, Dominika Cibulkova, Maria Kirilenko, Lucie Safarova and Francesca Schiavone. Any of these could realistically be in with a chance of lifting the trophy at the end of the week.
