Azarenka and Radwanska have already met four times in 2012 with the Belarussian winning them all but there's been a fair bit of friction between the duo. Radwanska has effectively accused Azarenka of gamesmanship due to her grunting, something the world number one did not take particularly kindly to.
Both players had to battle their way into the last four. Radwanska found herself a set and a break down against reigning French Open champion Li Na but hit back to send the Chinese star packing 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
"She was playing very well today, and I think I wanted to do too much in the beginning," Radwanska said afterwards. "I was making a couple of mistakes early but in the second set I knew I had to be more calm and serve much better. It was very close and I'm happy I could turn it around and beat her on clay courts."
In contrast Azarenka looked to be cruising at 6-4, 3-1 up against Mona Barthel before nearly letting it all slip away. Azarenka has struggled with the German's game already this year and she found herself in a real dogfight before pulling through 6-4, 6-7(3), 7-5.
Azarenka won their past two matches very comfortably, beating her rival 6-0, 6-2 in Indian Wells and the result of this one will depend on how much psychological baggage Radwanska carries from those four defeats in 2012.
Prediction: Azarenka in two.
