Its end of the summer and that can only mean one thing - The final Grand Slam of the tennis season, the US Open, is going to start this Monday with the world’s finest tennis players ready to compete for this prestigious trophy. To celebrate Unibet have a fantastic cash back offer – Back any player to win the men’s or women’s tournaments and if they lose in the first round, Unibet will refund your stake in full!

The undoubted favourite for the men’s tournament is Novak Djokovic, who is compiling one of the best seasons ever seen on the ATP tour. He has taken two of the three Grand Slams played this season and goes into this tournament at odds 2.50. He is expected to be fully recovered in time for this tournament, after retiring from Cincinnati final last Sunday with a shoulder problem probably brought on by fatigue.

Rafael Nadal will be slightly disappointed with his season by his own incredible standards, although he still landed a sixth French Open title to equal the legendary Bjorn Borg. He is carrying a 0-5 record against Djokovic in finals this year and has looked less than convincing on the US hard courts this summer, with surprising defeats to Ivan Dodig and Mardy Fish. However, he always raises his game for the Grand Slams and will be fired up to defend the crown, which he won in a classic final against Djokovic last year which is why he is priced at Unibet at odds 5.00.

Roger Federer will be looking to prove that the reports of his decline have been greatly exaggerated. The Fed Express has not been at his best this year and looked rusty during the US hard court season which is why he is priced for this tournament at odds 6.00.

Unibet’s Head of Sportsbook, Erik Backlund, told Bettingpro:

“The men’s tournament is tough to call. Djokovic is the obvious choice but we cannot know how bad the shoulder problem he experienced during Cincinnati is.”

“Andy Murray at odds of 6.50 is also a serious contender. Even though he had a strange season this year, his performance at Grand Slams is consistent and strong and with the title in Cincinnati, his confidence will be a key factor.” “Other live outsiders for the men’s draw include form player Mardy Fish at odds 35.00, who is playing the best tennis of his life, enigmatic Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at odds 35.00 and the 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro at odds 20.00.

After a year’s absence, the women’s draw is once again overshadowed by the towering presence of Serena Williams. After a year off with some career-threatening ailments, she returned at Wimbledon and has since been in excellent form on hard courts, winning two titles in Stanford and Toronto. She seemed to have that mental edge that she has often carried over the other girls back and if she is fully recovered from a toe injury that forced her out of Cincinnati, she will be a tough nut to crack. Unibet priced Serena at odds 2.70.

Along with Serena, main contenders for the women’s trophy are Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvitova both priced at odds 8.00 by Unibet. Sharapova is back in the top echelons of the women’s game and is likely to make her presence felt here. Kvitova fulfilled her potential with a thrilling triumph at Wimbledon, and will be looking to prove that was no fluke here in New York. She has the game to destroy any player; however she has been inconsistent over the summer as she adjusts to her new-found fame. The other women had better watch out if she clicks over the next two weeks.
