Alejandro Falla can upset veteran Tommy Haas in the second round of the 2011 US Open.
Wednesday was a great one at the 2011 US Open for this column, as my men's bet of the day, Julien Benneteau, thrashed Nico Almagro to bring home a 3.05 winner.
He actually did it too easily, as my advice of a long encounter proved incorrect, but Benny's win also brought another of my 'five potential first round upsets' to fruition, meaning that three of the five recommendations (plus Jack Sock) were successful at big prices.
Also yesterday, Marcos Baghdatis and John Isner eased over the 40.5 games mark to bring home another winning bet.
My other wager was void, as Venus Williams withdrew from the tournament and perhaps from our screens for good, as she'll now drop out of the world's top-100.
On to Thursday and there's a lot to like about today's line-up at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre and I'll be starting my day's betting with an investment on the in-form Petra Cetkovska against flaky Ana Ivanovic.
The Czech player is having a stellar summer, with 24 wins against just six losses since the French Open and at 2.2 she looks too good to resist against a player who's lost to the likes of Ayumi Morita and Roberta Vinci this swing.
Ivanovic is tweaking her game (again) under new Brit coach Nigel Sears and her form might yet improve for next year, but for now I can see a repeat of Cetkovska's Wimbledon win over the Serbian being the likely outcome.
The former world number one has never done well in New York, with the fourth round being her best showing yet. Cetkovska on the other hand comes here having posted wins over Li Na, Marion Bartoli and Agnieszka Radwanska last week in New Haven, so you have to back the form player in this one.
For those hunting a bit of value, there's every chance that an injured Andrea Petkovic could prove to be worth opposing at 1.37 against Jie Zheng.
Zheng has shown good form this summer with wins over Julia Goerges and Kim Clijsters on hard-courts; she also took a set off Serena Williams in Toronto.
Petkovic should have retired when clearly in agony in the Cincy final but said that she would 'rather die than retire'. An admirable attitude, but it might cost her today. Zheng will take full advantage of a less-than-fit Petkovic.
On the men's side, the standout bet for me has to be Alejandro Falla, who did us proud at a big price in round one, to put creaking Tommy Haas out of his misery at 1.81 on
betfair.
Haas is on his last legs and the last thing you want if you're Tommy is a long battle with Falla, who has never retired in a match and loves a long scrap.
They have met four times previously, with Haas leading 3-1, but Tommy's body is about done now and Falla will gain revenge for his tight 2009 loss here.
Elsewhere, I'd be tempted to add Radek Stepanek, Richard Gasquet and Marcel Granollers to any
Betfair Multiples today.
