Jeremy Chardy and Frederico Gil will step on to the centre court at Vina Del Mar on Friday with hopes of making it through to the final four of the VTR Open. The pairing appear to be fairly closely matched, and this upcoming contest promises to be a scintillating one.

Chardy booked his place in the last eight with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer. Mayer had appeared to be in good form after dismissing sixth seed Santiago Giraldo in round one, but the Frenchman was able to cut his run short with a consistent performance.

Gil, meanwhile, managed to upset fourth seed Pablo Andujar in round two. The world No. 99 dominated the Spaniard throughout, and managed to walk away with a comfortable 6-2, 6-1 success. It looks like Gil has finally found his rhythm after a jittery first round success against Paolo Lorenzi.

Gil defeated Chardy in Bucharest in 2011, but this win came at the end of a three match losing streak at the hands of the Frenchman. Gil might have the momentum, but Chardy is arguably the more capable player. This should be a very close match, which seems fairly likely to run into three sets.
