Jelena Jankovic will take on crowd favourite Aleksandra Wozniak today in round two of the Rogers CupYou can watch and bet on Ivanovic v Vinci live for free at bet365 > live tennisWildcard entrant and Canadian No. 1 Aleksandra Wozniak is hoping to impress the home crowd in this year’s Rogers Cup by stringing together an unlikely sequence of victories. The world No. 55 is in amongst an incredibly strong main draw lineup, and it will take a number of upsets to carry her through to the latter stages.
At the moment it’s a case of so far so good for Wozniak. She began her campaign with a 7-5, 7-6(5) triumph over Daniela Hantuchova, in which she got through some nervy moments to eventually seal match point.
“I'm happy to be done today,” said Wozniak after the win. “It was my first match here after the Olympics, a change of surface, finding your rhythm and your timing.”
“It kind of hurt a bit not to take the match points before the tie-break, but it's not over until it's over. I came back. I knew it was very important to finish it in a tie-break, so I was really focused on one point at a time and I'm happy I made it.”
Next up for Wozniak is a meeting with No. 13 seed Jelena Jankovic. The Serb has been way short of her best form this year, and the crowds here in Montreal might just be sensing that another upset is on the way.
That said, Jankovic holds a 4-0 head to head record against the Canadian, and has beaten her in this event before. She’ll have to work hard to make it five in a row, but she enters as the favourite nonetheless.
