It has been a most unpredictable week in the desert. Who would have thought that Ivan Ljubicic would end up in the final having last reached this stage of a Masters Series back in 2006.
Roddick is the clear favourite, the American has served impressively all week and did well to stave off the threat of Robin Soderling in a tough three set semi-final yesterday. However could their be another twist in the tale of this tournament ?
No one gave Ljubicic a chance of upsetting defending champion Rafael Nadal but he did just that. Ljubicic never really looked in the match for much of the first two sets but clung in there and capitalized on a very poor final set tiebreak from Nadal.
Roddick and Ljubicic go all the way back to 2002, playing ten times and Roddick has won seven of those matches. They played three years ago in the Indian Wells quarter-finals with Roddick edging it in two desperately close tiebreaks.
This is the first time Roddick has been in the Indian Wells final and he will be desperate to capture his first title. Ljubicic’s serving and heavy forehands will keep him in the match but Roddick should eventually prevail.
