Caroline Wozniacki will battle it out with Ana Ivanovic for a place in the final four at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships

Caroline Wozniacki seems to be in contention for the WTA Dubai title this week after claiming a confident 6-2, 6-3 victory over Romania’s Simona Halep. The Dane hasn’t started the season badly, but has slipped down the rankings in recent weeks due to the successes of Victoria Azarenka, Petra Kvitova and Maria Sharapova. Still, she seems to be in an upbeat mood.

“It's a great feeling to be back,” exclaimed Wozniacki when speaking to interviewers after beating Halep. “I see my picture together with all the other champions and lifting the trophy, it's a great feeling. I wish it could be like this every week. It's nice to see I have some fans here - they were definitely yelling pretty loud out there tonight!”

The world No. 4 will now take on Ana Ivanovic for the right to take part in the semi-finals. The Serb seemed to be heading into a third set against Maria Kirilenko on Wednesday, but she took back the momentum to defeat the Russian 6-2, 7-6(4).

“It was a little bit of a strange match, especially the second set. There were just so many breaks and return winners,” commented Ivanovic. “It was hard to get the rhythm. There weren't too many long rallies then all of a sudden you would have one. I had to get down to business and try and work my way through it though. I thought I kept my composure well.”

Ivanovic holds a 2-1 head to head record against Wozniacki, but the 21 year-old will be the favourite after winning the most recent matchup between the pairing (Beijing 2010). Ivanovic is playing well at the moment, but she’ll need to be clinical in order to break down the sturdy Wozniacki defence.
