The highlight of Friday’s action at Royal Ascot is undoubtedly the Group 1 Coronation Stakes for fillies. Many of the runners who ran in the English, French or 1,000 Guineas re-oppose in this one and interestingly the last 26 winners have all run in one of these races. Sellers of SP’s will take heart from the fact that five of the last 10 runnings have gone to favourites. There has also only been one double-figure-priced winner in the last decade. As you would expect with a Group 1 mile race, there have been many close finishes in this race. However, buyers of winning distances will be encouraged that Indian Ink won last year’s renewal by 6 lengths.

One of the biggest betting heats and what usually turns out to be something of a lottery is Saturday’s Wokingham Handicap run over 6 furlongs. Seven of the last ten winners have been sent off a double figure price, which will be a boost to those buying SP’s. However, two of the past four favourites have won. Interestingly, in the last nine years no horse has won this race by more than 2 lengths and in 2003 Fayr Jag and Ration dead-heated. Sellers of winning distances will be hoping that this pattern continues on Saturday.
