Ronnie O'Sullivan has been installed as the early favourite for next year's World Snooker Championship as he bids for back-to-back titles.

The Rocket placed himself among snooker's greatest after securing his fourth world title on Monday evening and showed the type of form that could see him dominate the sport in the near future if matched with the desire.

The 36-year-old is entering the twilight of his illustrious career, but emphasised his reputation as snooker's figurehead with a series of stunning performances over the gruelling 17-day showpiece event.

The final threatened to be overshadowed by talk of a Ronnie retirement, but the Chigwell cueman quashed the rumours in his post-match interview, vowing to carry on playing, instead taking a six-month break from the sport.

The odds for next year's World Championship have been released and it is little suprise that O'Sullivan is the outright favourite for yet more glory; he is best priced at 6/1 with Ladbrokes.

This year's pre-tournament favourite Judd Trump is the 13/2 second favourite with Irish firm Paddy Power; snooker's young sensation Trump suffered a last frame heartache to eventual runner-up Ali Carter but will be determined to bounce back in style by clinching a maiden world title.

Runner-up Ali Carter proved to be the surprise package of this year's competition with a dream run to the final which came on the back of a miserable season.

The two-time ranking winner now appears to be in better health and heading back in the right direction under the guidance of former champion Peter Ebdon.

The Captain is a 33/1 chance to win his first world title in 2013 at the third time of asking in a Crucible final, having lost out to O'Sullivan on both occasions.

Neil Robertson is well fancied to double his title tally in Sheffield next year at 8/1, while world number one Mark Selby is next up at 9s to finally become champion of the world.

Ding Junhui is out at 12/1, while John Higgins also drifts to 12/1 after rounding off an under-par ranking season with a disappointing title defence which saw him suffer a thrashing at the hands of legend Stephen Hendry.

Shaun Murphy and Stephen Maguire are two of the most consistent performers on the professional circuit and provide good each-way value at 16/1.

Motor mouth young gun Mark Allen is a 25/1 chance; the Ulsterman is never short of a controversial remark or two but will be looking to put his money where his mouth is by becoming world champion.

As with the tournament gone by, next year's World Championship promises to be as wide open and dramatic as ever with the busiest schedule ever for the forthcoming season set to separate the men from the boys before snooker's elite head back to the famous Crucible Theatre.

The new ranking season gets underway on June 25 with the Wuxi Classic in China.
