O'Sullivan is looking to join the elite bracket of legends who have picked up four world titles, including Stephen Hendry, Steve Davis, Ray Reardon and John Higgins and he is rred hot favourite to seal victory in double quick time tonight.

The Rocket holds a five-frame advantage after three intruiging sessions of snooker against a resiliant Carter.

The situation looked grim for The Captain as a string of nervy routine missed pots allowed his ice cool opponent to step in and clinch the opening four frames of the session to storm 14-7 in front.

At that point, it appeared that an evening session may not be needed as O'Sullivan threatened to run away with the final as he did in their 2008 meeting.

Carter however, under the guidance of methodical former champion Peter Ebdon, refused to give up and reeled off three consective frames after the mid-session interval this afternoon, including a superb century break to reduce the deficit back to within three. 

The final frame of the afternoon went to Ronnie courtesy of two mid-range breaks and he will feel the trophy is now there for the taking.

The bookmakers see no comeback with O'Sullivan over the hill at 1/66 and Carter out at 20/1 for what would be one of the all time great comebacks.
