The qualifying stages of the 2011 UK Championship are underway at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester, as players attempt to secure their places at the prestigious event next month.

A number of top players will take to the baize from November 5-9, in a bid to reach the main televised event in York starting December 3.

Legends Jimmy White, Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry must all battle through qualifiers, however as Hendry has a higher ranking, he must only win one qualifying game for the right to face fellow Scot Stephen Maguire in the first round proper.

Marco Fu, Peter Ebdon and Ken Doherty, who have numerous major titles between them all come into play on Wednesday.

Players who have impressed on the PTC tour this season, including youngsters Ben Woollaston and Jack Lisowski will look to reach their first major ranking event, when they begin their quest on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

All matches will be played over the best of 11 frames.
