O’Sullivan’s passage to the quarter-finals was not quite so easy, as the triple world champion was drawn against defending champion Ding Junhui in the opening game of the tournament.The four-time Masters champion looked to be on course for yet another victory over Junhui but the Chinese star produced a great fight back before O’Sullivan secured the last two frames to seal the win. O’Sullivan smashed off a break of 125 in the final frame against Junhui, who has now lost his last five games in succession against O’Sullivan.O’Sullivan began as the tournament favourite and can be backed at 8/11 (Betfred) to beat Trump on Thursday, while the Bristolian is available at evens to reach the last four. The pair are arguably the most exciting players in snooker at present and as such it could be an extremely close contest, with neither inclined to indulge in prolonged bouts of safety play.Trump managed to get the better of O’Sullivan in the UK Championship in what was a cagey affair, with neither player on top form, and hopefully in Thursday’s contest the pair will be able to produce their best snooker. It is hard to separate the two players and pick a winner but Trump is better value at evens and certainly has the capabilities to beat ‘the Rocket’, as he showed in York in their last meeting. This quarter-final could certainly go to a deciding final frame and a 6-5 victory for O’Sullivan is priced at 6/1, with Trump the same price to win by the same scoreline.
