Hendry has recaptured close to his most clinical form so far at the venue which he has become synonymous with over the course of his glittering career.

The Crucible King produced a magical 147 in his opener against Stuart Bingham and went on to end the hopes of defending champion John Higgins by a crushing 13-4 margin.

He has captured the imagination of the snooker faithful, many of whom believe he has what it takes to become 'Hendry the Eighth' by claiming his eighth world title.

His Quarter-Final opponent is fellow Scot Stephen Maguire, a man who has familiarised himself with the later stages of major ranking events this season.

He reached the German Masters final in February, only to lose out to Ronnie O'Sullivan and also claimed the final PTC title of the season.

He, like Hendry, is a clinical break builder when given an opportunity in among the balls, something which should make for another Crucible classic.

The duo have met five times in previous major compeition dating back to 2005 and Maguire will be encouraged by his good record against his senior, having taken four victories including 4-3 in their last meeting in the Semi-Finals of PTC 6 earlier this season.

The bookmakers make Maguire the odds-on favourite at 4/7, with Hendry offering value at 5/4 to cause yet another upset with title sponsors Betfred.

The match will be played over three sessions across the three days, with the first starting at 10am on Tuesday, the second at 7pm that evening and the climax at 2.30pm the following day.

It will be streamed live over the best of 25 frames from the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.

The winner will face either Jamie Jones or Ali Carter  in the Semi-Finals.
