Shaun Murphy heads into the new snooker season in a bullish mood as he aims to pick up more silverware to cement his reputation as one of the world's top cueists.

The 2005 World Champion enjoyed a fine 2011/12 campaign which saw him reach the Masters final and become the first winner of the Brazil Masters invitational; he looks set to challenge for more trophies in the upcoming season with his polished all-round game. 

Speaking exclusively to Bettingpro at an exhibition with fellow professional Mike Dunn, Murphy said: "I'm happy with how I'm playing at the moment.

"I had a good solid season and I'm hoping to carry some of that form into this one coming up.

"I need to improve on my concentration in the PTC events but I feel I'm in good shape and looking forward to a fresh challenge this year," added the 29-year-old Manchester ace.

Murphy was one of the most travelled players of last season, clocking up thousands of air miles over 24 ranking tournaments and says he is supportive of the gruelling new schedule put in place by new Chairman Barry Hearn.

"I'm really in favour of the new tournament schedule, I enjoy travelling abroad to compete and I think the emphasis on building the profile of the game in China is a great idea."

Murphy is due to fly out to China for the first ranking event of the season - the Wuxi Classic from June 25 to July 1 - a tournament in which he enjoyed success in 2010 when he defeated local hero Ding Junhui to pick up the title. 

The world number six ended last season in disappointing fashion however, suffering first round exits at the China Open and most notably the World Championship at the hands of young debutant Jamie Jones.

The Magician however will be determined to get off to a good start in what promises to be one of the most fiercely competitive seasons to date, with nine televised ranking events and the Players Tour Championship offering a staggering £7.1million in prize money.

Murphy is renowned for showcasing one of the game's most fluent cue actions and possesses deadly long potting ability, something which puts him in high regard among fellow professionals.

He took on Middlesbrough's Mike Dunn as well as members of the audience at the exhibition on Teesside, with the duo providing a thrilling battle which ended 3-3 and saw top breaks of 133 and 78.

The 2012/13 snooker season gets underway on June 5 with the Wuxi Classic qualifiers to be held at the World Snooker Academy, Sheffield.
