Two of Snooker's greatest ever players will go head-to-head in round one of the UK Championship this afternoon, as Ronnie O'Sullivan plays Steve Davis.

The duo boast nine world titles between them and are renowed as legends of the sport.

They meet in the opening round of Snooker's second biggest ranking event - the UK Championship in York on Sunday afternoon.

O'Sullivan is in good form going into the event; he picked up the Premier League title just two weeks ago and is the 7/1 second favourite for this title with William Hill.

Veteran Davis is now in his fourth decade of playing and has an unrivalled enthusiasm for the game.

He recently reached the final of the World Seniors Championship and won three qualifying games to book his place in this event.

The pair have met once in this tournament, way back in the 1993 quarter-finals, where an 17-year-old Rocket defeated Davis en route to becoming the youngest-ever winner of a ranking tournament.   

O'Sullivan is inevitably the bookmakers favourite to progress tonight; he is priced at 1/8 with Bet365, with Davis the 9/2 outsider.

The winner will play either Judd Trump or Dominic Dale in a potential last 16 thriller. 

The match begins at 2pm and will be streamed live over the best of eleven frames from the Barbican Centre, York.
