Martin Gould defeated defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan 286-258 on Sunday evening to win the 2011 Power Snooker Masters and claim his first professional title.

Harrow cueist Gould prevailed from a field consisting of the the world's top 16 and saw off top quality opposition on the way to picking up the £25,000 first prize in Manchester.

The 30 year-old adapted well to the quick-fire format and produced a fine display of fluent potting under the 20-second shot clock.
 
It was The Rocket who took the initiative in the final however, leading 234-138 after three racks, but the turning point came in the fourth when The Rocket missed a simple pot on the Power Ball to a corner pocket.

Gould succeeded in planting the Power Ball and cleared up to trail just 249-258 going into the next rack.
 
It was Londoner Gould who got the better of a scrappy fifth and build a 286-258 lead by the time the 30-minute clock ran out.
 
"The trophy means a lot to me because it's my first. The money doesn't matter at all," said Gould, who was runner-up in the Players Tour Championship Grand Final last season and is into the top 16 for the first time."

"I've loved every minute of it. It's a different game but at least I know I'm cueing well, which bodes well for the next few tournaments," he added.
 
The defeat for O'Sullivan signals his first ever in the event for two years. He said: "Congratulations to Martin, he played a brilliant game. I had chances and missed a couple, he took advantage and held his bottle."
 
The ranking season returns this week with the tenth PTC event taking place in Sheffield.
