1997 world champion Ken Doherty stormed into the last 16, beating Martin O'Donnell and Jamie O'Neill, before defeating Jamie Cope 4-2 with breaks of 59 and 75 to continue his fine run of late.

Neil Robertson appeared sluggish after his Premier League defeat to Matthew Stevens the night before, going down 4-2 to Joe Jogia.

It proved to be a rollercoaster 24 hours for Matthew Stevens; having won week one of the Premier League in Skegness on Thursday night, he then travelled to Sheffield for the PTC, winning his first two matches against Sam Baird and Adam Duffy, before losing out 4-2 to Anthony McGill.

Other big names who failed to reach day 2 include Shaun Murphy, Stuart Bingham and Ding Junhui, emphasising the high standard of competition.
