Reigning World champion John Higgins looks to add the Shanghai Masters to his growing list of major titles and begins his tournament against Mark Davis on Wednesday morning.

The Wizard from Wishaw has made a sluggish start to the season, losing in round one of the Australian Goldfields Open to Matthew Selt and sitting 21st in the PTC order of merit.

The world number one has never won this tournament and seems determined to add it to his large collection of worldwide titles.

His opponent is the resurgent Mark Davis, who finds himself in the highest ranking position of his career (18th) after reaching the final of the recent Paul Hunter Classic PTC event.

Despite losing in the final to Mark Selby, the man from St.Leonards produced some fine Snooker over the three days and could threaten Higgins if he brings that same form to the table in China.

Higgins top class calibre and consistency in big tournaments is reflected in his price of 3/10 with Bet365, with Davis a 12/5 outside chance.

The Scot will be looking to avoid a scalp similar to that suffered by 2010 winner Ali Carter, who was beaten 5-4 by Mark King on Tuesday.
